Poetry by Michelle

Late August

Chilly morning
shortening daylight —
but you realize you’re still standing
on the endless country road
of July
with the nectar-fattened bees
hanging lazy in the wildflowers
the air smelling dry and yellow
and summer ambling by
like a horse
on its way to nowhere —
days without punctuation or signage
feeding the illusion
time is not passing
merely drawing and subsiding
like the tide.
